Meter Seal

In addition to it being illegal to remove a Meter Seal, it is extremely dangerous for someone who is not an electrician to remove a meter.

It is very important for the Meter Seal to remain intact at each metering location. To help insure this and for the protection of each member, Washington EMC uses a special tool to imprint each seal when it is installed and records the seal number along with other meter information.

In addition to it being illegal to remove a Meter Seal, it is extremely dangerous for someone who is not an electrician to remove a meter. For those reasons, the Cooperative requests your assistance as follows:

  1. Notice the Meter Seal occasionally and make sure it remains intact.
  2. Pay particular attention to meters you have that are away from your home or in isolated areas.
  3. Report any broken seals or unsafe conditions to the Washington EMC office immediately.
  4. If you need to remove your meter for electrical work, please notify the Cooperative first; the meter will be resealed when work is completed.

By observing the above request you may help keep costs from rising through current diversion and more importantly you may save someone's life.

NOTE:

Whenever a Meter Seal is broken without prior authorization the member is required to pay an unauthorized service/meter tampering fee, plus the estimated cost of any unmetered electricity.
